Located in a slum in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, the Centro Educativo Mariuxi, is using education to help children avoid the dangers of their local streets and to encourage them to learn practical skills.  It provides a safe haven for children whilst allowing their parents to hold jobs that often keep them away from home for long hours.  The centre provides the children with warm meals, offers tutoring on core subjects and vocational training, including computing.  It also organises excursions and fun outings to parks, museums and even a sweets factory.

The Centro Educativo Mariuxi is exclusively run by volunteers and through donations.  ArTELIER has an ongoing collaboration with the centre and is thus proud to donate proceeds from its productions to help support its invaluable work.

The staff works closely with the parents to discuss their responsibilities and the children’s progress.  In addition, it offers the parents free lectures on topical issues such as hygiene.
